As a marvelous predicting and estimating methodology for the Heat Island in an urban area, Architecture-Urban-Soil Simultaneous Simulation Model, AUSSSM was entirely established. AUSSSM has several sub-models, such as one-dimensional vertical distribution of air temperature, wlnd velocity and humidity ratio in urban canopy, artificial heat generation from buildings and traffic, evapotranspiration from vegetation, transient evaporation from artificial surfaces shortly after precipitation, dynamic performance of cooling load and HVAC system in buildings. These sub-models have been developed in authors' former works. One of the most important features of AUSSSM is the fact that each sub-model has relatively same level of its accuracy, which leads practically correct and significant solution under the constraint of limited computational resource.By AUSSSM, a series of numerical experiments were presented, which was strategically designed. As a primary experiment, so-called Variation Study was tried to pick up relatively significant factors affecting air temperature increases in an urban area among assumed factors relevant to the urban planning, architectural design and architectural-mechanical performances. As the next step, a really huge experiment by the Design of Experiment Theory was performed, where L81(340) was adopted as an orthogonal array. And this brought a significant result wlth the ANOVA Table and Table for Estimation of Factoriai Effects, which could be regarded as a quantitative diagnosis for the discussing Heat Island Phenomenon.
