大阪に本拠を置く雑誌に掲載された小説類を検討していくと、おおむね次のような傾向が浮かび上がってきた。ひとつは、「なにはがた」のように、作品舞台を圧倒的に関西とするものである。「大阪文芸」などもこれにあたる。もう一方のほうでは、「葦分船」は、編集意識としては、東京に本拠を置くものに近いものであると思われる。地方の文学雑誌への批評が見られるのもその反映である。小説の舞台も東京である場合が多い。しかし、「大阪文学者に望む…」というような記事や「なにはがた」の批評もあり、大阪を本拠としていることを意識している部分もある。こうした雑誌同士の相互の意識の問題はさらに検討する必要がある。「なにはがた」の小説の筆者については本来は東京に在住のものや、大阪出身者、また東西の文壇で活動しているものもある。これらについては、東京で発行されている雑誌と大阪のそれとに掲載される小説に趣向や表現に差異があるかどうかが今後の検討の課題となる。また、表現の問題でいえば、大阪の独自の用語を意識的に用いるものもあれば、作者自身が、小説の舞台にふさわしい用語を用いていないとわざわざ断るような例もある。大阪独特の言葉の使用について、会話の中の用語と地の文における用語の差異についても方向性は出てくると考えられる。いずれにしても、これらの課題は、大阪の文壇を一地方のものと捉えるべきなのか、東京への対抗軸として考察すべきなのかという問題につながろう。地域性の問題では、京都と対比して独自性を出そうとする傾向も、近代文学と東京という問題とも絡んで、重要になってこよう。こうした雑誌に見られる傾向が、単行本の場合にはどのようになるのか次の課題となろう。
