1918年から1939年までについて、データの入力をほぼ完了した。引き続き残りの時期について作業を継続しているが、平成13年4月よりフランスに赴いて、戦時利得税文書および戦後の金融機関史料から関連するデータを本格的に収集し、入力を終える予定である。39年までのデータの分析結果は、すでに概要を発表している、パリ機械工業の構造変化についての私の仮説を、ほぼ裏付けるものとなった。1934〜35年の再軍備開始に伴い、パリ地域の金属機械工業は、主要メーカーの製品転換と部品調達網再編の波に覆われることになった。38年前後に本格化し、大企業から末端の零細企業までを巻き込んだ、生産性向上のための設備投資は、40年半ばまで尻上がりに増加を続けるが、十分な効果が上がる前にパリ地域はドイツ軍の占領下に入る。第二次大戦中とくに占領期の変化についてはなお不明な部分が多いが、データをざっと見渡したところでは、戦争による破壊も占領当局による徴発も大したものではなく、生産活動はかなりの程度維持され、技術変化もそれなりに活発であった模様である。44年夏の解放戦も、個々の工場にとっては一時的な混乱以上のものでなかった。むしろ終戦直後の、流通網崩壊に伴う経済麻痺が、零細企業には大きくこたえ、増加する民生品(とくに自動車)需要を見越した業界再編の動きに影を落とすことになったと考えられる。詳しいことは今後1年間の在仏研究で明らかにされるであろう。成果は13〜14年度中に、フランスの学術誌に発表する予定である。
