During these two years (1999-2000), Major topics of our project are focused on developing the method of intensive field researches, and making of the ethnography in Chinese villages. At the first research (1999) , we investigated extensively around Qingpu Prefecture, Jiading Ward and Songjiang Ward in Shanghai. Thereafter, we determined the intensive research fields on Jinglingqiao Village, Sicun Village, Lianjian Village and Lianzhuang Village in Songjiang Ward. We stayed there about one month, made ethography of South East Chinese Villages as a report of investigation. As a result, we could describe the traditional and modern folk customs in South East Chinese Villages, for example, social structure, lineage system, political organization, subsistence, rites of passage, ceremony, festival, belief, oral literature, food, clothing and housing.We could succeeded to understand these subjects in rural villages of Southern East China where have transformed rapidly by the general policy of reform and openness. Especially, we could peruse and copy the statistical data that had been formerly difficult to look and take a picture. The method of this research consists of an interview, and we could also get the document that was equivalent to an interview. This will be contributing to a research for the future.

在这两年（1999-2000年）中，我们的主要课题集中在发展深入的田野调查方法和制作中国乡村民族志。第一次调查（1999年），我们在上海市青浦区、嘉定区和松江区进行了广泛的调查。随后，我们确定了松江区的景灵桥村、寺村、联建村、联庄村为重点调研区域。我们在那里呆了一个月左右，做了一份《中国东南村落民族志》作为调查报告。这样，我们就可以描述出东南农村的传统和现代民俗，如社会结构、宗族制度、政治组织、生存、成年礼、仪式、节日、信仰、口头文学、衣食住行等，从而可以理解在改革和开放的大政策下迅速转型的东南农村的这些主题。特别是，我们可以仔细阅读和复制以前难以查看和拍照的统计数据。本研究的研究方法是访谈，也可以取得相当于访谈的文件。这将有助于未来的研究。
