项目摘要

日本でテレビ放送が始まって半世紀が経過した。この間、テレビでは膨大な数のドキュメンタリー番組が放送されてきた。ドキュメンタリー番組はこの半世紀の社会の変化を映像によって記録してきた貴重な歴史資料ということができる。実際、近年、横浜市の「放送ライブラリー」や川口市の「NHKアーカイブス」などのように、過去のドキュメンタリー番組を「国民的文化財」として収集・保存・公開する動きが、放送業界で具体化しつつある。今後はテレビ番組が否応なく歴史資料として対象化される時代がやってくるものと考えられる。本研究ではこのような状況を踏まえて、日本のテレビ放送におけるドキュメンタリー番組の概史を明らかにしようとした。その際、「内容(何を)」の網羅的な把握よりも、その「方法(いかに)」の変遷に力点を置き、テレビ草創期以来の主要なドキュメンタリー番組において社会がいかに描き出されてきたか、またその方法がどのように変化してきたかを検証した。日本では資料状況がなかなか整わないこともあって、テレビ番組の歴史研究はほとんど進んでいない。本研究では、前々年度、前年度に引き続き、当時の制作者たちに聞き取り調査を実施したほか、NHKや民放で過去に放送された番組(『日本の素顔』1957-1964など)を個別に入手して具体的な映像の分析を行った。その上で、研究の最終年度として、これまでの研究の成果を総合的にとりまとめ、その一部を論文や関連学会で公表した。本研究によっていくつかの課題も明らかになった。今後は、ドキュメンタリー番組のデータベース化も含め、その考察を「内容」面へと継続的に拡大・精緻化していく必要がある。と同時に、ここで明らかになった成果を「テレビ」という重層的な総体が埋め込まれた戦後日本社会の存立構造の変容に関連づけていく作業に取り組みたい。
