The purpose of this study was to investigate the validity of Takano's (1989) multi-process theory of mirror reversal by comparing it to the other theories. This study first confirmed that some people do not recognize left-right mirror reversal of their own mirror images. The multi-process theory predicted that those people would recognize mirror reversal of letters, whereas all the other theories predicted that those people would not recognize mirror reversal of letters, either. This study showed 102 students various mirror images, and found that 33.3% of them did not recognize mirror reversal of their own mirror images, whereas 100% of them did recognize mirror reversal of letters. These results unmistakably endorse the multi-process theory.
