项目摘要

平成13年度には、クーザン(Victor Cousin,1792-1867)がフランス近代美学の成立に果した役割をスピリチュアリスムの系譜のなかで見定めるために、ベルクソン(Henri Bergson,1859-1941)の「直感」を取り上げ、これを鈴木大拙(1870-1966)の「日本的霊性」-浄土系思想および禅に見られる非二元論的な宗教意識-と比較しながら、「直感の美学」の可能性を探った。クーザンの美学思想は、これを批判的に継承したベルクソンによって創造的に展開され、そこに日本の伝統的な美学思想にも通じる豊かな霊的思索が認められるからである。ベルクソンが「直観」と呼ぶものは、「対象の内部に身を移し入れ、対象のもつ独自なところと一致する共感」である。「日本的霊性」を説く大拙も、「禅の方法とは直に対象そのものの中に入り、いわば内側から対象を見るのである」と述べている。このように、ベルクソン的直観と日本的霊性とは、主客の不可分・不可同という基本的な構造を共有する一方で、見逃せない差異もある。前者は、一般的なものを対象として「美的直観」→「哲学的直観」→「神秘的直観」と延長されながら、天に向かって上昇するが、後者は、あらゆる具体的なものを対象として、母なる大地に根ざす。とはいえ両者は、観想(theoria))とも実践(praxis)とも制作(Poiesis)とも規定されない、三者がそこに区別されなくなるような終極、もしくは三者がそこから区別されてくるような始源であって、創造という人間の存在理由と、美や藝術の実存的意味を教えてくれる。そこに直観の美学の可能性がある。以上の研究成果をふまえて、平成14年度以降は、今ひとたび十九世紀フランス・スピリチュアリスムの思潮を見直して、とくにクーザンの高弟ジュフロワ(Theodore Jouffroy,1796-1842)の思想を再評価したい。かれの美学的共感論は、ベルクソンの哲学的直観論の原型とも言うべき重要な理論なのである。
