予定していた対象企業のうち、エレクトロニクス系の日本9社・米国7社・EU3社の合計19社を検索対象とした。これら企業名で米国で刊行された発表論文と米国で取得された特許を1980年、1990年、1998年の3ヵ年にわたって検索し、発表者所属研究機関国籍ならびに発明者所属研究機関の国籍を特定化することができた。検索の結果、いずれの企業も例外なく研究開発の国際化を進展させてきたことが明らかとなった。それらの内訳は、これら企業名による米国刊行論文の場合、日系9社平均で1980年の1.4か国から1998年の7.8か国へ。米系7社平均が1980年の5.3か国から1998年の15.1か国へ、そしてEU3社平均が1980年の5.3か国から1998年の15.7か国へといずれも顕著な増加傾向を示していた。このことから、研究開発の領域のなかでも基礎研究の領域に近づくほど、多様な国籍の研究機関の研究者との共同研究が不可避となってきていることを意味している。また、対象19社のなかでもっとも研究開発の国際化が進んでいた企業は、米国IBM社であった。同社の研究開発の国際化の程度を発表論文で検証してみた結果、1980年の12か国から1998年の31カ国へと増大しており、第2位のHP社の21カ国、第3位のPHILIPS社の20カ国を大きく凌駕していた。しかも重要な点は、研究開発の国際化が進んでいる企業ほど、米国取得特許数が多くなる傾向にあった点である。ちなみに基礎研究レベルで最も研究開発の国際化が進んでいたIBM社の場合、米国特許取得企業別ランキングにおいて1990年代後半以降一貫してトップの座を占めている。しかも同社のみならず、研究開発の国際化のみならず、多様な国籍の研究機関との共同研究を通した研究開発のグローバルなネットワークが進展してきたことが明らかとなった。今回の科研費による研究の最大の成果は、企業間競争のグローバル化が単に研究開発のグローバル化を推し進めているばかりではなく、多様な文化的背景を有する多様な国籍の研究機関所属の研究者との共同研究をも進展させてきたことが明らかになった点である。

A total of 19 companies in Japan, 7 companies in the United States, and 3 companies were selected as target companies. In 1980, 1990, and 1998, the company name of the company to which the paper was published and the license granted to the country to which the paper was issued were searched for, and the nationality of the research institution to which the paper was issued was specified. The results of the research and development of enterprises in China are as follows: In 1980, the average number of articles published in the United States was 1.4. In 1998, the average number of articles published in the United States was 7.8. The average number of countries in the United States increased from 5.3 in 1980 to 15.1 in 1998, and the average number of countries in the European Union increased from 5.3 in 1980 to 15.7 in 1998. This means that research in the field of research development and basic research is closely related to research in various research institutions and that joint research by researchers of various nationalities is inevitable. International research and development for enterprises and IBM companies The degree of internationalization of research and development of the same company is shown in the paper. The results show that the number of countries in 1980 increased from 12 to 31 in 1998, and the number of HP companies in 21 countries and PHILIPS companies in 20 countries exceeded the number of countries. The important point is that the internationalization of research and development is advancing, and the number of licenses obtained in the United States is increasing. Basic research, development, internationalization, IBM, American franchising, corporate identity, etc. have been in place since the late 1990s. It is clear that research and development on the Internet has made progress due to the need to work together, the internationalization of research and development, and the communication of research institutions of diverse nationalities and joint research. The greatest achievement of current research expenditures is the advancement of research development in the context of competition among enterprises and the diversity of cultural backgrounds, and the progress of joint research by researchers of various nationalities and research institutions.
