乳児保育支援システム「育ちの記録」を導入している調査協力園において、発達チェックリストをもとに、0〜2歳児クラスの在籍乳児一人一人の発達様相を担当保育者に記録してもらってきた。発達チェックリストは、乳幼児精神発達診断法(津守ら,1997)をベースに保育所の生活における子どもの行動に沿うよう表現を工夫して作成したものである。「体を動かす育ち(運動技能)」「回りのものを取り込む育ち(探索行動)」「人と関係をもつ育ち(社会性)」の3領域から成り、約200項目が用意されていた。保育者には2ヶ月ごとに乳児の行動を観察し、各発達項目を通過していたかどうかを記録してもらった。全国の導入園(約100ヵ所)のうち一部の園(22ヵ所)に依頼し、記録された発達チェックリストを回収した。のべ約800人の0〜2歳児のデータをオリジナルに作成した入力・集計システムに入力する作業を行なった。入力したデータをもとに、それぞれの月齢時点における各発達項目の通過率をコンピュータで集計し、乳児保育における子どもの発達過程について津守ら(1997)の研究結果を比較しながら分析・検討した。男女別の通過率についても集計し、その差異について調べた。また、昨年度の調査研究によって得られた集計結果をもとに、保育所における0〜2歳児の発達過程を9つの期に分け、それぞれの時期における特徴を保育所保育指針と照らし合わせながら記述する試みを行なった。これらの結果を保育関係者の研究会(セミナー)において発表し、成果を協力園に還元してきた。
