1 アメリカ信託統治政府の行政資料を収集すべく、ハワイ大学図書館太平洋資料室にて文献調査を行い、手元の資料を補った。2 これらの資料に基づいて、ヤップの伝統に関する論文1本を『アジア経済』誌に、ヤップの土地と所有に関する論文2本を『オセアニア学会NEWSLETTER』誌と『ぽぷるす』誌に公表した。(1)『アジア経済』誌に発表した論文では、従来の伝統をめぐる議論が人々の日常的な語りを看過してきたことを批判しつつ、伝統概念の「もつれ合い」という観点から、政府による伝統の語りと人々による伝統の語りや実践との関係を明らかにした。すなわち、西洋的な伝統概念とヤップ語の伝統概念との差異を具体的に示すとともに、この差異を消去・隠蔽する政府の政治的な伝統の語りが、人々の日常的な伝統の語りや実践によって骨抜きになっていることを指摘した。(2)土地と所有に関する論文のうち、『オセアニア学会NEWSLETTER』誌に公表した論文では、信託統治時代に実施された所有権確定作業の事例分析を行った。西洋的土地所有制度の導入によるヤップの土地制度改革を目的とした所有権確定作業が、首長や家長らとの関わりを通じて、むしろヤップの土地制度の「伝統」的正当性を固定・強化する結果となったことを明らかにした。また『ぽぷるす』誌に発表した論文では、信託統治時代の土地裁判の分析を行った。西洋的所有概念に基づいて下された裁判所の判断が、人々の日常的関心のなかでヤップの土地概念に則して読み替えられていく過程や、裁判所が排除したヤップの土地概念が「法」に対抗する「伝統と慣習」として客体化されていく際の政治力学を実証的に解明した。3 これらの研究を通じて、人々の日常的な語りを看過してきた従来の人類学的植民地研究を批判し、政府の語りと人々の語りや実践との「もつれ合い」という分析的視点に立った実証的研究のあり方を提示した。
