自分の特別研究員としての活動期間は半年しかなかったため、本来目標としていた計画達成のための準備を行う段階で終わったが、以下のような活動を行った。短期間ではあったが、今後につながる研究活動を行うことができたと考えられる。(1)学会や研究会にて以下のような活動を行った。・サウディアラビア王国の建国期における支配基盤について中東学会で報告を行った。(2002年5月 第18回日本中東学会『サウディアラビア王国の国家形成と支配基盤の史的変動』於東京)・サウディアラビアの現代政治経済に関する国内の専門家と意見交換のため、研究会で発表を行った。(2002年6月 エネルギー総合推進委員会(CEPP)にて『サウディアラビアの政治変動:インタレストグループの視点から』於東京)・現在の中東国際情勢の見通しを題材に取りながら、国際政治学と中東地域研究の双方の分析視覚の間の接点をさぐる発表を行った。(東京大学東洋文化研究所で開催されているAsian Seminar、2002年9月『現在の中東情勢:サウディアラビア研究の視点から』)(2)サウディアラビア政治の変化を理論づけるために必要とされる比較政治学の成果を収集する点で一定の研究を進めることができた。(3)2002年8月の現地調査では、オスマン帝国の側からの歴史的視点を得ることによって、サウード家・ワッハーブ主義複合支配の政治的歴史的意義を確認できた。(4)なお2002年7月から9月までは参議院第一調査室の客員調査員として、国際問題に関する調査(タイトル:文明間の対話)で助言を行った。この活動では、イスラーム政治や文明間の対話について、現在の日本でどのような研究が必要とされているのか問題意識を得ることができた。
