平成16年度は、本研究課題のまとめと体系化を行う時期に当たっている。本研究全体の課題は、アメリカの大学におけるビジネス・スクールの成立について、その過程と課題、意義などを実証的に論じ、そこで得た知見を通して、大学史研究の発展、ひいては現代のわが国における大学教育の改善・開発に資することにある。平成15年度までは、アメリカの大学におけるビジネス・スクールの成立の実態について、主要な事例を複数大学取り上げ、各事例に関する一次史料を中心とした分析を行うことを通して、ミクロなアプローチによる研究成果を発表してきた。16年度は、これら15年度までの事例分析の成果を基礎にしながら、ビジネス・スクールの成立の諸相を、よりマクロ的な視点から包括的に捉えることにある。ビジネス・スクールの社会的基盤、設立理念と構想、組織編成、カリキュラム、大学による受容過程、学生の需要と就学行動、大学内外でのビジネス・スクールの位置づけ、これらを通したビジネス・スクールの変容などについて、事例分析で積み重ねてきた内容を重ね合わせ、比較考量を加えながら検討を進めた。以上の研究成果については、近い将来、単著として刊行される予定である。具体的な活動としては、国内外の高等教育研究者や大学史研究者による研究指導と意見交換、補足的な史資料の収集と分析、および関連文献の講読・検討を行った。そのため、16年度の研究補助金の主要な部分は、研究打ち合わせ、資料収集、調査のための旅費、および関連文献の購入に充てられた。
