1 授業参与観察本年度(平成14年度)については、昨年度に引き続き、1学期中に授業参与観察を行った。総合的な学習の環としての英語活動カリキュラムの特徴として、参与観察対象校では、「必要感のある英語活動」と題して3年前から実践が行われているが、今年度はその主たる担い手であるALTが入れ替わったことと、観察参与対象校の教官が昨年度担任であった6年生から3年生に異動したため、研究内容に変化が生じた。学習内容については、高学年に比べ、3年生には、どのような英語学習にも興味を示し、その興味が持続する傾向がある。例えば、歌やゲームを行うことには、6年生の興味・関心がなかなか持続しないところがあるが、3年生は同じ歌やゲームであってもそれらへの興味・関心が減少することなく、かなりの期間にわたって持続する。しかしながら、英語学習の内容や構成に関して、その殆どを、新しいALTに全て委任してしまうという傾向も見られた。これは昨年度からの課題であったが、この課題を克服するためには、ALTとの綿密な打ち合わせ時間の確保や、教材・教具の作成・準備時間の確保が必要不可欠であり、週2回のみ勤務する非常勤講師というALTの待遇を考えると、運用面での課題克服にも限界があることが判明した。2 小学校英語教育視察今年度は、資料収集と授業視察を行った。授業視察では、現在英語教育で小・中連携の研究を実践している小学校の実践を視察し、将来、わが国の小学校英語教育でもすぐに課題となるであろう問題について、実践の観察と資料収集を行った。視察の結果、小学校の英語活動(6年生)を中学校教師が担当している実践であり、英語教師の思惑が色濃く反映されているという印象を持った。小学校高学年であるため3,4年生のような歌やゲームだけの活動では興味・関心を長時間持続させることは困難であるものの、教師主導の授業よりも、児童の興味関心を主眼におく実践への工夫が望まれると感じた。
