今年度は、20世紀初頭に論じられた子ども中心主義の教育思想のなかで優生学がどのような機能を果たしていたかについて、ドイツと日本を比較しつつ考察した。考察に際しては、両国の問題状況を典型的な形で反映している『児童の世紀』(Key 1900)の受容・研究動向に着目した。ドイツに関する考察結果は、「ドイツにおける『児童の世紀』の受容状況(1)-1902年から1992年まで-」(『愛媛大学教育学部紀要 第I部 教育科学』、第49巻第1号、2002年9月)にまとめた。日本および日独の比較に関する考察結果は、「<優生結婚>という思想-大正期・新中間層の産育観とこれを規定する知の枠組み-」(上記紀要、第50巻第1号、2003年9月)に発表する予定である。一連の考察から、子ども中心主義の教育思想と優生学が「自律性(自己決定)」という概念を結節環として結びついていること、また、子ども中心主義の教育思想のなかで優生学が「自律性」を中核とする新興中産階級の社会的アイデンティティを確立させるべく機能していたことが明らかとなった。また、教育思想における「母性」の概念史を再検討し、これを通して、子ども中心主義の教育思想における子ども-大人関係の特異性を指摘するとともに、その特異性が教育学への優生学の導入と深く関連することを論じた。これについては、「E.Keyにおける『母性』概念の再考察-近代教育思想史におけるその位置づけと意味-」と題して、教育哲学会第45回大会で発表した(2002年10月)。さらに、この2年間の研究をまとめ、次年度以降の研究課題を明らかにするべく、「<自己決定>に関する試論-近代教育学における子ども-大人関係の捉え直しに向けて-」(上記紀要、第49巻第2号、2003年2月)を著した。この論考を通して、「自律性」概念の捉え直しとそのアポリアの解明が今後の課題として導出された。
