项目摘要

昨年度は,土器様式の地域性の把握と,その移動状況から,所持した集団の移動という証左を得るために,広域土器編年を構築し,その地域様式別の動きを検討した。本年度は,これを年代基準として,それにともなう外来遺物の検討,そして島嶼群間,島嶼内における外来遺物の出土状況から,集落間格差の抽出を試みた。大隅諸島,トカラ〜奄美諸島,沖縄諸島の島嶼群のうち,もっとも発掘事例の多い沖縄諸島を検討した。まず,弥生文化との関連の深い,搬入土器・弥生系土器,貝集積遺構,貝輪製作段階資料,外来遺物,箱式石棺墓を項目別に,それぞれの出土状況・検出状況を検討した。そのあと遺跡ごとに検討し,その分布状況を見てゆくと,弥生文化に関連の深い集落と,そうでない集落との集落間格差を抽出することができ,交易場所と考えられる集落も抽出可能であると推定した。この状況は,「貝交易」に際して,沖縄諸島の複数の集落が,ランダムに交易を行なっていたのではなく,その効率化を目指して,地域的なネットワークを結んだ在地集落の地域的最小単位が看取されるのである。当時,「貝交易」に際しては,西北九州地域の集団が沖縄諸島に来島して,各集落と交易したという従来の図式ではなく,沖縄諸島内部で自律的に生成されたネットワークによる「貝交易の効率化」という動きもまた把握できるのである。従来まで,貝塚時代後期前半の研究は,このような動きを検討するものはなく,採集・狩猟生活が行なわれた停滞した文化期であると捉えられつづけてきた。しかし,沖縄諸島内部で看取された外来物(交易品)の出土などから,すでに何らかの集落間格差が生じていたことは明確である。そして,大隅諸島,トカラ〜奄美諸島,沖縄諸島の島嶼群間における遺構・遺物の把握においても,当時隆盛であった「貝交易」の供給地が沖縄諸島にあるということもまた確認された。この特殊な位置づけこそが,中世の「琉球国」成立の鍵になる可能性がある。
