项目摘要

2006年度は,研究の最終年度となり,総括的な研究と今後の課題を目的とした遺跡調査を行なった。初期国家形成のプロセスの把握に際して,近年の奄美諸島の研究成果が注目されている。奄美大島の古代のヤコウガイ大量出土遺跡と喜界島の古代から中世の大型建物跡などである。この現状は,現在の南西諸島研究の凝縮した内容であることに鑑み,その現状と課題についてまとめ,英文報告した。まず,近年の高梨修による奄美諸島の古代末から中世の研究動向において,文献史学に依拠した歴史構築を考古学的な視点から批判を試みた。近年のヤコウガイ交易論(古代末から中世)については,(1)考古学的ヤコウガイ大量出土遺跡の盛行期(7世紀)と文献史学的ヤコウガイ消費動向の最盛期(12世紀)とは年代的に整合しない。7世紀の大量製作状況を裏付ける資料は,文献・考古・現存資料からも存在せず,(2)遺跡によっては,ヤコウガイが食料残滓である可能性も捨てきれない(受熱したヤコウガイの存在),(3)ヤコウガイ交易が,中央政府による管理交易であるとする論拠である「身分動機」は,「当然」とするほど,交易の実態は解明されておらず,文献史に依存した古代国家前提の理論であり,考古学的には弥生時代〜古墳時代のゴホウラ・イモガイ交易(高梨は「贈与交易」とする)と変わるところがない。律令国家の存在がなければ,考古学的には同様な交易形態に思える。特に沖縄琉球王国論批判を行ないながら,沖縄の同時代の遺跡とは相対化されていない。また,経済人類学的視点からは,(4)「島伝い有視界航行ではな」く,奄美諸島を目指した交易である,とする根拠が薄い。また,(3)「島嶼部は首長によって束ねられた複合社会」とするが,首長制・複合社会の定義はなく,説明が不十分である。(1)「高島の拠点性」については,木材資源の低島への再分配システムなどには不明瞭な部分があることなどを指摘した。遺跡調査は,遺跡の非破壊調査を目的とし,地中レーダー探査によって墓域の調査を行なった。その結果,トマチン遺跡の砂丘地には,現在のところ,3つの墓域が存在する可能性が指摘された。また,石棺の図化作業を目的とし,石棺墓調査を行なったが,石棺墓の石棺が上下二重構造になっていることを突き止め,沖縄諸島の木綿原遺跡例を含め,南西諸島という島嶼地域に特殊化した石棺墓構造をとることを検証した。しかし,今回は下部構造の調査にまでは至らなかった。今後の石棺墓調査へと移行していくことを課題とし,調査を終えた。さらに,種子島広田遺跡の特性は,本土地域からだけでなく,トカラ列島・奄美諸島・沖縄諸島の墓制の視点からみることでも明確になることを明らかにした(黎明館講座「広田遺跡を知ろう!」2006.10.15)。
