近年の国際共同研究成果から、新生代の太平洋と他の海洋開閉史の基本的枠組みが判明し、パナマ海峡など5つの主要海路の開閉関係から太平洋の7段階の海況変化過程が提言されている。これに基づき、本邦の地史的事件について、その変化過程と地史的事件の内容について多角的に再評価した。特に海況変化がもたらす生物群集への影響について、多くの分類群から提言がありその内容について相互に検討することができた。検討会は平成13年12月中旬の3日間にわたり、つくば国際会議場にて開催した。また関連する話題とその資料調査などで本研究代表者などが、琉球大学や東北大学などに出向き、関係研究者と議論した。その話題の主なものは次の通りである:新生代生物年代尺度と放散虫群集の変遷;古気候変遷と植物化石群の変遷の対応;カリブ海ならびに東部赤道太平洋地域の石灰質ナンノ化石群集と古海洋環境の変遷;渦鞭毛藻化石層序と古環境変遷;日本列島のテクトニクスと応力場の変遷;東北本州弧の火山活動変遷;日本列島の統合地史;嶺岡帯の発達史;関東の中新統対比と地史イベント;関東のイベントと日本列島の屈曲;シークエンス層序からの堆積イベント;東北地方新第三系の最近の複合生層序の諸例;浮有孔虫生層序と古環境;底生有孔虫のイベント;珪藻化石の群集変遷と古環境;石灰質ナンノ化石群集の変遷と古海洋環境の復元。このような話題提供と、本企画研究に直結していたユネスコのIGCP-423提案が不採択となったことを考慮して、当面は新生代イベントの年代と解釈などの精度をさらに高める努力をすすめ、来年度新たな国際シンポジウムを提言するよりは、2003年にタイ国チェンマイで開催予定の第8回太平洋新第三紀対比計画(CPNS)のシンポジウム企画として提言することとした。

Recent international joint research results show that the basic structure of the Cenozoic Pacific Ocean and other ocean opening and closing history has been identified, and the relationship between the opening and closing of the main sea routes in the Strait and the change of sea conditions in the Pacific Ocean in the seventh stage has been proposed. This is the basis of the history of the land, the process of transformation, the content of the history of the land, and the multi-angle re-evaluation. In particular, the effects of sea conditions on biological communities are discussed in detail in the context of taxa. The seminar was held in the middle of December, 2013, and the international conference hall was opened. The topic of this study was discussed by representatives of the University of the Ryukyus and Tohoku University Cenozoic biochronology and migration of dispersed insect populations; paleoclimate and migration of plant fossil populations; calcareous fossil populations and paleomarine environment in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean; fossil sequence and paleoenvironment migration of spironodinium; migration of the Japanese Islands; volcanic activity migration of the Tohoku Honshu arc; integrated geological history of the Japanese Islands; development history of the mountains; Miocene series in Kanto region: geological history; bending of Kanto islands; accumulation of sequence; examples of recent Neogene complex sequences in Northeast China; floating foraminiferal sequences: paleoenvironment; benthic foraminiferal sequences: migration of algae fossils: paleoenvironment; migration of limestone fossil populations: paleomarine environment. The IGCP-423 proposal is not considered in this project study, but is aimed at improving the accuracy of the new generation proposal. In 2003, the 8th Pacific New Tertiary System Comparison Project (CPNS) was launched.
