This project will explore the application of a novel technique of fibre fabrication (chelate delivery in MCVD) to rare-earth doped fibres for fibre lasers and amplifiers. The chelate technique allows much greater control of the doping than has previously been possible. Higher rare-earth concentrations and greater control over dopant placement will permit fibre lasers and amplifiers with increased and novel functionality.
