项目摘要

東海地方以西の古墳時代中期(5世紀)の土師器を対象とした一連の編年表作成に当り、平成16年度研究実施計画に則って土器資料の収集ならびに実見を行い、以下の知見を得た。資料収集は畿内と北部九州を中心に行った。畿内では北摂・中河内地域で5世紀前半、北河内地域で5世紀後半の資料の増加が近年目立ち、特に韓式系土器や他地域産(あるいはその影響を受けた)土師器資料の充実が見られる。韓式系土器は古墳時代中期を通して畿内へ入ってきており、朝鮮半島と日本の土器の時間的併行関係を把握することも将来的に可能である。一方、畿内では導入当初から整形技法・形態で土師器化が認められ、韓式系土器だけからなる土器様式を抽出することは困難である。他地域の土師器には、山陰系複合口縁甕・東海系台付甕・西日本に広く分布する有稜高杯などがある。これらは畿内における当該期の土器組成の中で一定の割合を占めており、各地で確認される畿内系土師器と同様、地域間の時間的併行関係を捉える指標となる。北部九州では、椀形高杯など畿内で一般的な形態を示す土師器はほとんどなく、畿内的な土器が散見される吉備や出雲とは対照的である。しかし、5世紀前半の土師器の高杯の多用、5世紀後半の高杯から杯への供膳具の変化など、土師器の様相全体に関わる大きな変化は畿内と共通しており、モチーフの採用において意思が働いているものと思われる。なお、平成14〜16年度の研究成果をもとに、畿内とその周辺(近江・丹後・紀伊)・東海・山陰・瀬戸内東部・瀬戸内西部および北部九州間の編年対照表を作成した(別途報告書にて提示)。
