(1)前年度・前々年度に引き続き、『影印注解悉曇学書選集』『大正新修大蔵経』に収録されている中世悉曇学書についての調査を行った。特に、『韻鏡』輸入期の漢字音研究の第一人者、明了房信範の悉曇学関係の著作『悉曇字紀抄』『悉曇秘伝記』『悉曇私鈔』、さらに、『韻鏡』のシステムを本格的に悉曇学に導入した賢宝『悉曇字紀創学抄』についてテキストの精読を行い、伝統的な悉曇学の用語と、新来の韻鏡学の用語とが、どのように齟齬し、その齟齬がどのように解消され、また解消されないまま放置されていたかを、整理した。その結果、日本で最初に『韻鏡』の解読に成功したとする伝説を持つ信範の著作が、むしろ前代の悉曇学の伝統を色濃く継承し、『韻鏡』の音分析システムについての知見が悉曇学を進展させたと見なせる箇所が、思いの外乏しいことが明らかになった。(2)国立国会図書館・都立中央図書館・東京大学附属中央図書館・東京大学文学部国語研究室・東京大学史料編纂所・筑波大学附属図書館・富山市立図書館等において、中世悉曇学書および関連書籍の閲覧・書写を行った。今年度、(1)で参照できるもの以外の中世悉曇学書を、新たに発見することはできなかったが、中世に書写あるいは加点された、悉曇章資料・陀羅尼資料・儀軌資料を数点調査することができ、中世悉曇学の理論が、どのように実践の場に反映されていたかについての一端を明らかにすることができた。(3)慈雲・文雄・行智など、近世韻学の著作についても調査を継続した。当初の計画では、研究の焦点は中世からの継続面にあったのであるが、今年度の調査では、江戸期における漢字音研究の発展が、いかように悉曇学に反映されたかという、近世における悉曇学の新展開を明らかにすることに、力を注ぐことになった。
