平成16年度は,研究の完成年度として,データの分析と理論の精緻化に重点をおいて研究を進めた。データは,新聞や雑誌あるいは文作作品などのテキストをソートしてテキスト化し,名詞を修飾する構造をもつと見なしうるものを相当数集積したが,関係節構造の分類基準についてはいまだ確立された定見がないと考えられるので,今後柔軟に活用することを念頭に整理を行った。このためリジッドなデータ分類ではなく,ルースなデータ分類になっている。現状では,そのまま容易に活用しにくい状態と考えられるので,今後,最も有用と考えられる1つのパターン,あるいは研究の方向性ごとの活用に耐える複数のパターンのいずれかに整備し直した上で公開することを考えている。現状の原データは,本研究以外で分析に耐えうる形式になっていないので,今後時間をおかずに公開することは避けて,利用に供しうる形式にした後に公開を行う。タグの種類も本研究で用いているものに関連づけて取捨選択して簡素化することを考えている。ついで、本来の目的である「日本語関係節構造の発話解釈コスト」の理論的なしくみの解明については,原理として提示できる形にすることができたので,これは他の研究の進展を踏まえながら,できるだけ速やかに成果として発表する予定である。本研究では,命題情報による活性化と個別の世界知識のトリガーによる活性化が相乗して,いわば情報の受け入れを先取りする形で発話解釈が行われているという見解が得られ,それによって「発話解釈のコスト」が縮小したり,増大したりし,いくつかの変数的要素によって,総合的にコストが決まることを明らかにした。ただし,ラングのレベルで規定できないような,個々人の差異もあり,それらをどう取り込み整理するかにもう一段階の知見が必要だとも考えられる。本年度の研究では,当初検討していた英米での語用論研究の理論的進展を調査するための旅行に割く時間が得られず,文献的に跡づけるにとどまった。今後は,実際に海外の研究者の連携を視野に研究を進めていく方向が重要になると思われる。またデータ分析の途上で,また,理論の精緻化のプロセスで,心理言語学(また,心理学における記憶研究や知能研究,あるいは文理解の研究)の研究者との連携やその成果の活用,また,談話標識に関する従来の研究(日本語学,とりわけ語彙論の領域にあるもの)の成果を活用することの重要性について認識を深めたので,今後の研究を進める上で十分に考慮しなければならないと考えている。
