项目摘要

本年度は、まず雑貨製造業の中で、戦前に日本と中国が競合していた陶磁器製造業・メリヤス製品製造業・ゴム製品製造業などに分析の範囲を広げ、日本・中国で資料調査や統計分析を行ってきた。各産業における産業集積のあり様、それを支えた諸制度・慣行(たとえば同業者組織や品質改善・技術革新への集団的取り組み)を比較することによって、日本と中国の違いを解明しようとした。その結果、日本と中国の制度的違いが多様である反面、共通して見られる違いがあることも明らかになった。そこで、最終年である本年度には、多様な表れ方をしている違いをまとめる試みとして、まず日本の工業組合制度や「粗製濫造」を問題視する現象を題材に、産地の「声価」に関する言説から、日本と中国の違いを一般化する試みを行った。具体的には、商工省官僚の発言や『工業組合』の記事などを史料に、「声価」を重視するあり様、そこに潜む経済意識を浮き彫りにした。また、本研究のもうひとつの視点である外国商人と「声価」の関係についても検討を進め、日本の政策当局や産地有力者が目標とした秩序・制度と、外国商、特にアジア系商人との衝突・対立を通じ、その間にある違いを鮮明にした。その視角から、日本と中国の経済秩序の違いの一端を解明した。最後に、日本で導入された後、中国が遅れて導入した輸出品検査制度の導入過程の比較を通じ、検査に対する両国の観念の違いも明らかにした。最終年の分析によって、これまで明らかにしてきた日本と中国の違いを一般化するとともに、今後の研究をさらに拡張させるための予備作業とすることができたと思われる。
