会話行動の発達の基礎メカニズムについて検討するため、会話行動の性差がみられるようになる幼児期から、児童期への移行に注目した。この時期は環境も心境も著しく変化し、ジェンダー意識もそれに伴い変化することが報告されており、ことばの評価や会話行動も、それに合わせて変化することが予想される。従って、本研究では幼児期ならびに児童期における会話行動を観察し、ことばの評価、ジェンダー意識との関連をみることにより、会話行動の発達過程と性差の要因について考察する。平成15年度は幼稚園の年長クラスを対象に卒園式直前の2月から、小学校入学、さらに小学校の3学期終了時までの約1年2ヶ月にわたり定期的に実際の言語使用と会話方略について観察調査を行った。調査対象は120名の児童であり、朝の登校時間の自由遊び場面から1時間目が始まるまでの約1時間を、ビデオカメラとフィールドノーツにより記録した。得られたプロトコルデータから、一人称使用、文末表現内容についてコーディングを行い、分析枠組みを作成した。また保護者へのアンケート調査を実施し、幼児期から児童期にかけての言語使用の変化について調査を行っている。今後は、このデータをもとに、子どもの男ことば・女ことばに対する意識を探るため、個別面接法により人形絵刺激などの実験材料を用い、ことばの評価、ジェンダー意識についての実験を行い、会話行動がどのように発達的変化を遂げるのか、その基礎メカニズムについて考察する。
