今年度は,昨年度までに収集した調査結果を再確認・アップデートし,一冊の書籍にまとめ上げる作業を行った.まず,本研究課題初年度に行った調査で,研究対象語彙を設定した以降に新版が出版された英語辞書について,語彙登録状況を確認し,追加された新語彙・新語法・新義を対象語彙リストに追加した.昨年度構築したコーパスサーバから新たに追加された語彙を検索し,抽出した用例を昨年度までの抽出データに追加した.既に昨年度までに抽出済みの語彙についても,検索作業を行った以降の英字新聞などに新たな用例があれば,追加し,データのアップデートを図った.また,抽出データ全体について,該当語彙が使用されている語法や意味の確認などを行った.これまでの研究結果に,上記の最新のデータを反映させ,新語彙生成から定着までの過程についての一連の変遷をまとめて,Lexical Borrowing and its Impact on English(ひつじ書房)という一冊の書籍として出版する編集作業を行った.その中では新語彙のうち,日本語・ドイツ語からの借用語を中心に取り上げ,新語彙がどのようにして英語の語彙体系の中に取り込まれていくのか,新語彙の登場によって本来の語彙体系はどのような影響を受けるのかというメカニズムを考察し,新語彙と英語の語彙体系両方のダイナミックな変化をコーパスを用いて解き明かした.借用語だけでなく,該当語彙と意味的に競合する新語彙・既存語彙も取り上げて,それらの語のジャンルによる使い分けや置き換えなどの用法について探求した.特にtycoonとmagnateという共に「実業界の巨頭」を意味する同義語をケーススタディとして取り上げ,使用状況の違いを詳細に描写し,さらにはそれ以外の同様の意味を持つ語を含めた同義語グループ内でのコロケーションや使用分野の分布を明示した.また,同書の巻末には,個々の日本語からの借用語がどの辞書に登録されており,どの程度の定着度であるのかを示すリストや,ドイツ語からの借用語の発音の変化の一覧表など,新語彙についての様々な情報を掲載し,他の研究者が利用できる資料として提供した.
