平成15年度は初年度であるため、移動を論じるために必要なデータ収集・整理を中心に行った。具体的には、文献資料の購入・複写による収集、地図や過去のフィールドデータ等のデジタル化、そして新たなフィールドワークによるデータの収集である。まず、文献資料の収集に関しては以下の通りである。1.1950年代に中国で行われた民族識別工作関連の報告書(191冊)の購入:これはセット販売のため、必ずしも移動民関連の報告書ばかりではないが、貴重な民族誌的資料である。2.旧ソ連製地図の複写:岐阜県図書館所蔵の資料について、中国甘粛省・内モンゴル自治区・青海省を中心に行った。3.新刊書籍の購入:北京市、甘粛省などにおいて、現行の民族誌および環境関連の専門書などを購入した。なお、文献資料の解読に現在進行中である。次に、デジタル化の作業は以下の資料に対して行った。1.旧ソ連製地図2.過去のフィールドワークで得られたGPSデータ3.現有のCORONA衛星写真ただし、これらのデータを重ね合わせる作業は現在準備中の段階である。フィールドワークについては、甘粛省粛南ユーグ族自治県を中心に、2003年2月に約2週間行った。当該地域は総合地球環境学研究所「水資源変動負荷に対するオアシス地域の適応力評価とその歴史的変遷」研究プロジェクトの一環として研究代表者が2001年夏季および2002年夏季に現地調査を行っている地域であるが、今回は冬季の牧畜パターンを中心として、牧畜民の日・年・ライフサイクルにおける移動の実態に関して聞き取り、観察及びGPSを用いた計測などを行った。調査で得られたデータは、現時点で基本的な整理とコンピュータへの入力が終了している。
