项目摘要

本年度は、前年度に引き続き、集団状況での行動傾向・心理過程を日本とアメリカで比較することを通じて、集団行動原理の文化的多様性を明らかにする研究を行った。より具体的には、これまで質問紙尺度で検討されてきたYuki(2003)の仮説を、記憶課題を用いた日米比較実験で検討した。同様の目的の下で実施された前年度の日米比較実験では、実験刺激のリアリティの低さが方法論上の問題点として指摘されていたため、この問題点を改善した実験を日米で実施した。その結果、Yuki(2003)の仮説に一貫して、「集団状況におけるアメリカ人の心理過程は集団間比較志向的で、日本人の心理過程は集団内関係志向的である」という知見が得られた。さらに、上の日米比較実験などで明らかにされてきた心理過程の文化差がそもそも何故存在するのかについて、適応論的観点から問う研究を行った。本研究では、「文化によって優勢な社会構造が異なり、それぞれの構造において適応的な行動傾向・心理過程が、デフォルトの行動・心理として獲得されている」という観点から、集団行動原理における文化差の存在理由そのものを解明することを試みた。具体的には、「アメリカ人は日本人に比べて集団間比較志向的である」という日米差の原因として、アメリカ社会を特徴付ける「ひとり勝ち市場」(Frank ＆ Cook,1995)という構造的要因に注目し、アメリカ社会での高い集団間比較志向は「ひとり勝ち市場」で生き抜くための心理傾向であるとの仮説を立てた。この仮説が正しければ、集団レベルの比較志向は個人レベルでの比較志向と正の相関関係にあることが予測されるが、これを検討する日米比較調査を行った結果、この仮説を支持する結果が見出された。
