昨年度の調査調査をふまえ、展示に目を向けるためのガイドを作成し、国立科学博物館の展示室にて実証実験を行った。1回目は2006年8月に、クジラの大量座礁を扱った展示「カズハゴンドウのマスストランディング」の展示解説を作成した。子どもに親しみのあるツールとして携帯ゲーム機(プレイステーションポータブル)を用い、HTML形式のコンテンツを作成した。クイズを中心とした入門編、展示で説明しきれない詳細情報を盛り込んだ詳細版を作成した。ゲーム機を持ち歩いて展示室内で解説を見るという体験は大変好意的で、ほぼ全ての参加者がまた使ってみたいという印象を持った。機器の使い勝手も良く、展示解説ツールとして適していると考えられる。詳細版では展示解説にない情報が好評であったが、詳細な説明を小さい画面で提供すると、肝心の展示に目が向かないといった問題点が見つかった。入門編ではクイズ形式のコンテンツの人気が非常に高かった。このような形のガイドとして、博物館や動物園でクイズ形式での導入を望む声が多く聞かれた。1回目の結果をふまえ、2回目は2007年3月に、哺乳類、鳥類に関するクイズを作成した。クイズ作成において上野動物園の協力を得、動物園、博物館両方で使えるクイズを作成した。1回目と同様プレイステーションポータブルを用いた他、絵を描いたり色を塗ったりするワークシートも用意した。小学校低学年にはワークシートの人気が、中学年以上はプレイステーションポータブルの人気が高かった。前回同様、博物館や動物園におけるセルフガイドとしての利用希望が多く聞かれた。既存の展示や普及した機器を活用し、体験的要素を含むガイドを手作りで安価に作成するだけで、子どもたちに展示に親しみ、「また来てみたい」「もっと調べてみたい」と感じてもらうことは可能である。また、複数施設にまたがるガイドとしての可能性も見いだされた。
