今年度は、立后の儀式に注目して、公卿日記・儀式書等に残された立后の記事、宣命文、儀式次第などから、立后宣命の文言の変遷について考察した。考察対象としたのは、『続日本紀』をはじめとする「五国史」などの歴史書、『西宮記』『北山抄』などの儀式書、『小右記』『御堂関白記』『中右記』などの公卿日記である。考察の結果、以下のようなことが明らかとなった。(1)立后宣命の定型化が見られるのは、平安初期の『日本後紀』に収められた橘嘉智子の立后宣命からであり、特殊な事情のない限り、平安時代を通じて定型の宣命が使用されている。この定型の宣命文は『朝野群載』や『儀式』にも収められている。(2)立后宣命の文言の中で最も重要な部分は、皇后の役割を表す「しりへの政」という部分であり、これは奈良時代の光明子の立后宣命から見られる。三条天皇の御代に、藤原妍子(藤原道長の娘)と藤原〓子の二后併立という事態が生じた際、道長は後に立后された〓子の宣命から「しりへの政」という文言を除くように命じていることからも、この文言の重要性は明らかである。(3)平安時代末期、皇后の名目化が進み、天皇の准母や上皇の妃など、現天皇の非嫡妻をも含むという事態が生じた結果、立后宣命の文言にも定型外のものが見られるようになった。例えば、堀河天皇の准母として立后された〓子内親王の宣命の場合、定型の宣命に見られる「皇后と定賜ふ」ではなく「皇后崇奉る」と記されている他、「同胞の親」「如所生に相憑相頼よ」など、天皇の母として遇されていることが、宣命の文言からも明らかである。これらの立后宣命や立后儀式の中に見られる宣命体表記部分については、XML形式でデータ入力しており、宣命体表記資料として検索可能な状態にしている。
