International Collaboration Study about Media Industry in the 20th century and the transformation of the East Asian country

This study aims to clarify the relationship of the media industry that appeared newly in the 20th century, which is considered to have transformed the modern history of East Asia.In 2005, our project team focused especially on the birth of Radio Broadcast and its influence to the societies of East Asian countries. We published the research result of War, Radio, and Memory (Benseisyuppan, 2006).In 2006, we held a symposium in Tokyo and Seoul (Korea) in order to discuss how the anniversary of the end of the war has been celebrated on August 15, 1945 and how is reported by mass media in Japan, China, Korea and other countries: Articles based on the presentations of the symposium were published with the title of The End of the World War 2 anniversary in East Asia (Co-edited by Takumi Sato and An suk Son Chikumasinsho, 2007).In 2007, we enlarged the range of the issue and held the second symposium which discussed the matter of how the war transformed daily life of people taking up postcards, leaflets, posters and Kimono patterns. The articles from the presentations of the symposium were published as War, Media, and Life (Ajiayugaku, Vol. 111, 2008).
