1) Development of a Teflon AF microchip with a liquid core waveguide absorption detector for μ-TASFabricated is a liquid core waveguide (LCW) analytical micro-chip made of amorphous fluorinated polymer, Teflon AF-1600. The polymer has lower refractive index (1.31) than water, and therefore, the LCW with an aqueous solution as a core could be formed using it as a clad material. The chip was applied to the flow colorimetric analysis of nitrite ion using the Griess-Saltzman reaction. This chip exhibited higher sensitivity than that expected from its path-length (4.4 times), i.e., 7.6 times higher than that with 10 mm cell. The lower limit of detection for nitrite was ca. 20 ngdm^<-3>. Sensitive and convenient colorimetric detection system could be achieved by using this LCW chip.2) Development of a Teflon AF microchip for cell cultivationA microchip for cell cultivation was fabricated with glass and Teflon AF, where a channel made in a sheet glass was covered by Teflon AF thin sheet. The Teflon AF sheet may improve the gas-exchange efficiency of the chip due to higher gas-permeability of Teflon-AF. The chip has been applied to the cultivation of human liver cell (Hep G2), but the effectiveness of the Teflon AF sheet for the cultivation has not been proved yet.
