これまでの研究において、分析概念としての〈皇国史観〉と、昭和18年前後から文部省周辺で使われだした資料用語としての「皇国史観」は区別されてこなかった。この点を踏まえ、研究の最終年度に当たって、なぜこの頃に「皇国史観」の語がクローズアップされたのか、またその具体的意味内容はいかなるものだったのかについて検討することを通じて、〈皇国史観〉概念の捉え直しを企図した。文部省における「皇国史観」の公認イデオローグといえる教学局教学官小沼洋夫は、もともとマルクス主義の立場から出発した。転向を経ての彼の「皇国史観」論は、国体論の混乱が続く時代の中で、『国体め本義』『国史概説』と結びつき、『国体の本義』を超えて独り歩きする多様な歴史観、国体論に対抗しようとした。当時は同じ「皇国史観」の語を用いながらも、『国体の本義』には批判的な立場から独自の活動を展開したグループ(吉田三郎、伏見猛彌ら国民精神文化研究所の若手所員)が存在し、「皇国史観」の相剋ともいうべき事態が生じていた。結局、吉田らの「皇国史観」解釈は小沼ら文部省主流派によって排除され、「皇国史観」解釈の一元化が進んだものの、平泉澄とその門弟は「皇国史観」に反対し、以て歴史観・国体論の対立は解消できないまま敗戦を迎えた。以上のような「皇国史観」の相剋を踏まえることは、〈皇国史観〉が雑多な思想の寄せ集めではなく、明確な対立軸を内在させた諸思想のダイナミックな展開を示す概念であると捉え直す手がかりになりうるだろう。

In the end, Yoshida's "Imperial History" solution was rejected by the mainstream faction of the Ministry of Education, and the unification of the "Imperial History" solution was advanced. Hiraizumi's brother opposed the "Imperial History" solution. The above mentioned "History of the Empire" and its counter-attacks are not easy to understand.
