研究の１年目にあたる今年度において、活字化に至った研究実績としては、1935（昭和10）年に生じた国体明徴運動と神社界・神道界との関係を扱った以下の２点の成果を得た。葦津珍彦が思想的な転回を遂げて、民族主義的運動に参画する1930年代の歴史において、天皇機関説事件を契機として生じた国体明徴運動は、従来の政治史研究や教育史研究の分野において、大きな画期として位置づけられてきた。第一の成果として、先行研究の最新の知見を踏まえたうえで、国体明徴運動のなかで唱えられた国体明徴論の展開を国体論の文脈からまとめた。具体的には、運動の結果、文部省から刊行された『国体の本義』の内容に注目するとともに、『国体の本義』批判の言説を踏まえ、『臣民の道』刊行へと至る流れを確認した。また、これまでの先行研究では、国体明徴運動を担った貴族院議員や政友会、在郷軍人会、文部省の動向は検討されてきたものの、宗教界、神社界の動きについては十分な検討がなされてこなかった。このような現状を踏まえて、第二の成果として、国体明徴運動と神社界との密接な関係について初めて具体的に明らかにした。天皇機関説事件が起きると、地方の神社界は敏感に反応し、独自の動きを進めていく。その動きを思想的に支えたのが、今泉定助や松永材といった神道思想家である。とくに葦津珍彦が師事した今泉は活発な運動を展開し、その動向は官憲も注視するところとなった。国体明徴運動を通じて、中央はもちろん、地方の神社界も活性化するなかで、葦津珍彦という神道的背景の濃厚な青年が、独自な思想を形成し、民族主義的運動にますます挺身していくことになる時代的背景を明確にした。
