To identify cancer patients'' knowledge of lymphedema, self-care skills, and possible factors associated with lymphedema, we conducted our investigation with the cooperation of 35 members of a cancer patients'' club. The subjects in this study included patients with cervical, corpus uteri, and ovarian cancer, 80% of whom had undergone lymphatic dissection. About 40% of the patients were informed by their physicians of lymphedema preoperatively. Postoperatively, 30% of the patients obtained information from magazines or other patients. As much as 45.7% of the subjects previously had lymphedema including lymphocysts; they visited the hospital for surgery or managed the condition with self-care.
