项目摘要

研究2年目に該当する本年は、前年度の成果を、日本アフリカ学会第43回学術大会にて発表した。(2006年5月28日、発表題目「19世紀前半のフランス-セネガル交易-インド産綿布とアラビアゴムの交換を中心に-」(大阪大学))また、昨年に引き続き、フランスおよびセネガルでの公文書館にて、19世紀のフランス-セネガル関係資料の収集に努めた。具体的には、フランスの海軍歴史資料室およびフランス国立図書館にて、19世紀のフランス植民地省の組織変遷とセネガル総督府支配構造についての資料を入手するとともに、ダカールの国立セネガル公文書館とサンルイの市立公文書館では、具体的なゴム交易の資料とフランスへの輸出や、19世紀後半からゴム交易に代替する形で、フランス商人の主たる輸出物となる落花生の生産と販売についての資料を入手した。ここで得られた成果は、3月発行の紀要に発表した。さらに、サンルイでは、実際にガイドを伴ってセネガル川沿いを上り、リチャード・トル、ダガナ、ポドールといった、フランスの進出拠点を訪問する機会にも恵まれた。こうした都市や港には、当時、フランスのボルドーやマルセーユから運んだ資材で建設された建築物や倉庫が廃墟として残っており、フランス商人の活発な経済活動の跡を見学することが可能となった。一方、サンルイやダカールとかなり異なる気候や地形を体感することで、フランス商人と消費者との間を仲介するセネガル商人が必要とされる背景、入手した資料に描かれている社会状況についても思いを巡らせることが可能となった。なお、本年度に予定していたボルドーの公文書館訪問は時間的に不可能であった。本研究では、仏企業のセネガルにおける史的展開を中心に調査しているが、隣国ガンビアで経済活動を行っていたのは、英国商人ではなく、セネガルのフランス商人であったことから、その内容は、別にまとめる必要が生じた「英国からフランスへのガンビア譲渡問題」に関する研究にも反映された。これについては、来年度出版予定の書籍の一章を構成する予定である。また、農林水産省の外郭団体の依頼で、旧フランス領西アフリカの綿花栽培についてまとめる必要があったが、その際にも、フランス企業と当該地域の関係について言及する必要があり、本研究の内容が反映された。

The results of this year's and the previous year's research were presented at the 43rd Academic Conference of the Japanese Academy of Sciences. The specific data of the Naval History Database Office and the National Library of the People's Republic of China in the 19th century were collected from the National Library of the People's Republic of China and the Municipal Library of the People's Republic of China in the 19th century.
