季節海氷域の振る舞いを正しく予測するために必要となる数値海氷モデルを構築することを目的として、オホーツク海や南極海で現場観測を行い季節海氷域の基本的な特性の解析を行った。その結果、氷厚発達過程の特徴、合成開口レーダーが氷厚分布推定に有用であること、比較的小さな氷盤分布の一般的な特徴など、モデルの構築に有用な知見が得られた。また、海氷内部応力の検証を行うために海氷漂流データセットの作成も遂行した。
