This research has progressed in the following stages as originally outlined in my research application: 1) Video interviews with acclaimed authors: In Heisei 18, the three male haijin were interviewed: Hoshinaga Fumio in Kumamoto, August 19; Hasegawa Kai in Yokohama, December 9, and Tsubouchi Nenten in Kyoto, February 15. In Heisei 19, three female haijin were interviewed: Uda Kiyoko in Itami, August 3; Yagi Mikajo in Sakai, August 4, and Onishi Yashuyo in Itami, August 5. 2) Translation of interviews: All interviews were transcribed into Japanese, and translated into English; extracts destined for print and Internet video subtitles were prepared.
