3歳児を持つ母親に実施した質問紙調査から, 母親の育児意識を検討した. 育児意識については,「育児肯定感」(例 :「子どもを見ていると元気づけられる」),「育児の価値」(母親が育児することや子どもを持つことへの評価. 例 : 子育てしない人生はむなしい),「育児ストレス」(例 : 育児は苦労が大きい)の3因子を確認した. 次に,「育児の価値」について, 母親の就労の増加や家事・育児以外での充実領域の増大に伴い, この指標の相対化が進むと予測し, その特徴と規定要因を検討した. 「育児の価値」の尺度得点を従属変数として重回帰分析すると,「性役割肯定感」「仕事肯定観」「母正規雇用」が説明要因として残った. いずれも, それが高いと「育児の価値」も高く評定された.「性役割肯定感」は予想に合致した. しかし, 予想とは逆に, 「母正規雇用」「仕事肯定観」が「育児の価値」の正の説明変数となったことについては, 仕事か育児かという二律背反で「育児の価値」が単純に低下していくものではなく, 母親にとって仕事での充実感が日々の育児への励みになっている可能性と考えられた.
