本年度は、初年度であり研究計画に沿って、もっぱら文献調査を中心として研究活動を行った。本研究の対象は明代萬暦年間、江南地方である。初年度の目標は、まず文人たちの交際の状況を明らかにし、人物のリストと関係図を作成し、次に彼らの手による文言小説の目録を作成し、それらを元に、彼らが共有した物語、小説観、また彼らと白話小説との関わりを考察するというものであった。初年度は、国内外の文献の収集に力を入れた。年度の前半は、京都大学人文科学研究所図書館において研究対象である江南地方の文人の文集の調査をした。調査の過程で、本研究に必要な文献は主に国立公文書館に所蔵されていることがわかった。そこで、7月中旬と10月上旬には、東京に赴き、国立公文書館所蔵の漢籍を調査し、資料を収集した。ここでは、本研究の対象とする時代・地域の代表的文人である陳継儒の文集について主に調査をすすめ必要な部分については複写した。事前に国内で調査をした上で、9月10日から20日まで11日間にわたり、上海、杭州、北京の図書館において文献調査を行った。まず、上海図書館の古籍部において、次に杭州に赴き浙江図書館の古籍部でここにしか所蔵され明代の文集を閲覧した。さらに北京国家図書館で抄本を閲覧した。しかし調査した資料はマイクロフィルムの状態が悪く十分な調査ができなかった。本年度は、その資料収集という意味ではその目的を達したといえるが、収集した資料を整理し、論文化する作業は次年度以降となる。
