本研究の目的は、これまで心理学の研究の中で蓄積されてきた「心の文化差」を、特定の心の性質を共有する人々が生み出す行動と、その行動の集積として個人の前に立ち現れる誘因構造(制度)を媒介として、社会的ニッチを構築することで自己維持的に存在していることを示すことにある。具体的には、集団主義と個人主義という心性として議論されてきた差は、社会的秩序問題の解決のために人々が共通に採用する信念体系と、それにより生み出される誘因構造(制度)の差であるという議論を進めてきた。さらに、これまでは東アジア人は集団主義社会として一括りにされてきたが、東アジア内における制度の相違を実証的に確認しておくことが必要であると考え、日本、中国、台湾の3カ国を対象として、それぞれの社会における集団の持つ意味を検討するため、実験室実験を行った。この実験研究の結果は、国際学会(アジア社会心理学会)のシンポジウムで報告された。また、この実験から日本人に見られた内集団ひいきを躊躇する傾向および、中国人に顕著に見られた内集団ひいき傾向の分析を進めるため、それぞれの国で、実験室実験を行った。さらに、上記の3カ国を対象として、条件操作を新たに加えてより議論を精緻するための実験を行った。以上の実験結果は、今年度以降は国内学会、国際学会で報告される予定である。また、実験による知見に理論的検討を加え、博士論文としてまとめる予定である。
