前年度より引き続き,18世紀パリ及びフランス宮廷で活躍し,服飾品生産・流通・消費に重要な位置を占めたモード商人と呼ばれる手工業者兼小売業者を中心に研究を進めた。2007年9月,パリにて調査を行う。パリ第一大学のドミニク・マルゲラス教授と面会し,ご助言によりパリ市古文書館などで史料収集に当たった。破産した小売商の帳簿類を閲覧し,前年度集めた情報と併せてデータ化する他,18-19世紀の手工業者/小売業者の広告などの図像資料も収集した。複数の商業文書に含まれる情報を数値化したデータから,「モード商人」として同じ同業組合に属していた手工業者/小売業者の間でも,扱う商品の価格帯・顧客との取引額などに差があることが判明した。高価な品物・作業を宮廷貴族らを相手に提供していた者と,比較的安価な品物・作業を非貴族の顧客やパリ以外のフランス諸都市の業者に提供していた者がいたということである。後者は仕立てなどの作業を請け負うことは少なく,物品販売を中心として薄利多売に近い路線を取っており,19世紀に出現するMagasin de Nouveauteと呼ばれる流行小物の販売のみ行う店舗や既製服店のあり方に直接結びつく業態になっていたと考えられる。19世紀半ば頃からMagasin de Nouveauteや既製服店で修行した者がデパートなどの大規模小売店を創立するが,こうした大衆消費の出発点がモード商人にあるのではないかという問題については,さらに経営方法(正札制,現金販売,展示・広告の有無と進展度合)などの角度からも考えていかねばならないだろう。
