项目摘要

本研究の目的は、海浜地域における自然をめぐるローカルな知の諸事例を探る中で、個々人と自然との関係、社会と自然との関係のあり方について、環境社会学、および環境民俗学的観点にもとづき研究を行うことにあった。その際、(1)社会資本として環境がどう位置づけられているのか、(2)「むら」という集団は、生活や生業、さらに環境の利用と管理においてどのようにふるまうか、についてあきらかにすることを主な課題とした。研究の方法としては、フィールドワークの実施を中心とした。三重県熊野灘沿岸部の山側の集落も含めた10地域において、参与観察・インタビューをおこなった。また海外(ネパール)においても比較研究のための調査を実施した。その結果、・自然環境へのまなざし:収奪(開発)・保護(保全)の対象を経て、記憶や記録を想起させる媒体=社会資本となりつつある。その分、「付加価値」が求められ、常に価値を再生産するシステムや仕組みもまた想像され続けなければならない。・現代的コミュニティのあり方:安全性や確実性などが保証された「想像上のコミュニティ」、および、自由がなく「分かち合う」ということが規範とされた「窮屈なコミュニティ」という二つの特徴をもつ。またその両者を行き来しながら、その都度折り合いをつける。という以上2点を導き出すことができた。これらの結果は、2007年11月に開催された日本民俗学会、および2008年2月のCOEプログラム若手研究者研究成果発表会にて報告した。
