项目摘要

近年、清掃労働にムスリムの人々やベンガル・ヒンドゥーの人々が参入し、もはや伝統的な清掃カーストの人々(ハリジャン)の独占する職種ではなくなってきた。ハリジャンの人々が清掃労働以外の職に就くための諸条件を多角的に検討し、パネル調査のための基礎データの収集を行った。あわせて有価廃棄物回収児童の実態、ハリジャンの権利擁護団体の結成の意味と課題、英領期の19世紀のベンガル地域におけるゴミと屎尿処理を中心に衛生問題を明らかにした。
