鏡に見立てた液晶画面に映る映像を時間(遅延の有無)と空間(マスキングの有無)で制御する実験装置を開発し、鏡像自己認識に影響を与える2つの認知的要因の分離を試みた。その結果、乳幼児の鏡像自己認識では顔認知成分より視覚運動成分(随伴性)が優位であることが示された。また、自閉症児は時間随伴性の歪み(遅延再生)の影響を受けやすいが、感覚運動成分(動きの同期性)に対して健常児より敏感に反応する傾向があった。
