終脳が嗅覚中枢として発達した魚類(金魚)と統合中枢である大脳をもつ哺乳動物(マウスとラット)を実験生物に用いて、電気生理学、光学計測技術および計算機シミュレーション技術等を駆使して、高等生物における化学感覚の受容と統合から定型的な行動が実行されるアルゴリズムを解析した。化学感覚の受容と定型的行動の指令と制御に関わるアルゴリズムを、自動制御可能な人工物の定型的行動と比較することにより、新しい人工物の設計原理を考察した
