感染・慢性炎症は極めて重要な発がん因子である。炎症条件下では活性種が生成され、DNAを損傷して発がんに関与する。種々の病因による炎症関連発がんにおいて、発がん好発部位で発がんに先駆けてDNA損傷塩基8-ニトログアニンが生成すること、さらに発がんリスクとなる病因治療により8-ニトログアニンが減少することを明らかにし、発がんリスク評価の新規バイオマーカーに8-ニトログアニンが有効であることを示した。
