ソウル、釜山、上海、香港、ジョグジャカルタ、マラッカ、バンコク、福岡等のアジアの都市での現地調査を通じ、欧米都市とは異なる近代化の過程を経て形成されたアジア型メインストリートの空間構成上の特性と都市の活性化や賑わい創出に供する仮設的要素の役割を整理すると共に、屋台・露店等の仮設的な要素で賑わいを創出しているメインストリートにおける仮設要素の役割や公共空間の利用と管理運営上の課題を明らかにした。
