We have studied on how to construct a ubiquitous worksite environment which can support outdoor work anytime and anyplace based on the mixed reality technology. In this environment, the next generation network, IPv6, and sensor networks with RFID tags connect a real world to a virtual world. This study has produced the following results :1. Construction of a circumstance monitoring system using multiple sensor networks with active RFID tagsA circumstance monitoring system for monitoring a worksite field is constructed using multiple sensor networks with active RFID tags. We have considered the collaboration of IPv6 networks and sensor networks, the fusion of sensing data sent by various sensors and the visualization of fused data while operating this system.2. Construction of a virtual space which enables users to share haptic sensation through a high-speed communication networkIn a ubiquitous environment, to construct an environment where users can share data obtained from real fields, we have developed a virtual environment which can share haptic sensation using force feedback devices. In sharing haptic sensation, high-speed data transmission and high reliability are required for users to feel real haptic sensation. To satisfy this requirement, we analyzed the influences of delay and jitters on the sensation in high-speed network environments.3. Consideration on user interactions in a ubiquitous environmentThe way how to present sensed data to their users is very important for them to make tightly-coupled relationship between human and objects, and to work smoothly. Thus, we have considered interface design to activate interactions between users and the objects by taking the creation of 3D computer graphics as an example.These results are published in various conference papers and journal papers.
