We have studied on the super-design technologies to easily externalize designer's unshaped images to concrete shapes and create computer graphics (CG) models from abstract expressions. New 3D modeling methods based on hand gestures and genetic algorithm (GA) are invented for this purpose. Additionally, we developed some application systems targeted at traditional arts and crafts design, urban planning, and industrial design for evaluation and validation of the invented methods. This study has produced the following results :1. The hand-gesture-based 3D modeling system enabling users to intuitively create and deform various CG models is implemented. The users can easily illustrate object's inexpressible characteristics such as the shape and the size by using intuitive hand gestures.2. The GA-based 3D design system to automate the setting of geometric parameters and the creation of new shapes is developed. The system only requires the users to rate each shape generated by the system. It relieves the users' burden to set up the appropriate parameter values and allows them to concentrate on conceptualization and imagination of the new geometries.3. The application systems aimed at urban planning, civil engineering work management, production of fireworks animation, and ceramics data classification and retrieval are implemented to evaluate the above two systems.These results are published in IEEE/ACM conference papers and IPSJ/IEICE journal papers. We also apply for a patent about a part of them.
