Dynamic Load Balancing for Systems under Heavy Traffic Demand and High Task Size Variation

当前的计算机系统不能处理极其繁重的交通需求。这样一个难题的解决方案是在系统的服务器上动态平衡负载。已经提出了几种解决方案，并证明在某些有限条件下(例如均匀分布)取得了进展。然而，基础研究工作必须超越目前处理负载平衡核心问题的方式。现实条件下的会计核算是一个理论和实践的挑战。本项目旨在为所研究的系统开发动态任务分配的理论和计算模型。其好处包括显著改善了系统响应时间。

Current computer systems cannot cope with extremely heavy traffic demands. A solution to such a difficult problem is to dynamically balance the load across the system's servers. Several solutions have been proposed and demonstrate advances in certain limited conditions (e.g. uniform distribution). However fundamental research work must be undertaken beyond the current way of dealing with the core issues of load balancing. Accounting for realistic conditions is a theoretical and practical challenge. This project aims at developing theoretical and computational models for dynamic task distribution for the studied systems. The benefits include substantial improvement of the system response time.
