项目摘要

カンボジア古典舞踊は観光資源として近年、注目を集めている。折しも2003年10月、古典舞踊はユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録され、政府側でもその振興方策を公式に打ち出すに至った。振興政策は、観光化に向けてクメール文化の質を向上させることをねらいとしているが、これはただ単に外国人観光客の間で人気を高め、商品として高く売れるよう、クメール文化を客体化(Objectification)し、観光資源として有効活用することだけを意味しているのではない。クメール文化の質を高めるという課題に取り組む好機ととらえ、古典舞踊に内包され、その上演を通して表現され明示されるクメール文化に政府は着目する。古典舞踊の振興は、国民のクメール文化、すなわち国民の大多数を占めるクメール民族が共有すべき性質としての「クメール」なるものをいかに再生するのかという課題と密接に関係している。観光開発というコンテクストにおける現在の古典舞踊は、観光客の娯楽的なニーズにこたえるものであり、その踊り手と質は確かにかつての古典舞踊のそれとは異なってきている。しかし、それは古典舞踊からクメールらしさが剥がれ落ち、もっぱら商業的な見せる芸能に変化したという意味ではない。カンボジアは観光開発という枠組みを利用しながら、古典舞踊を通してクメールらしさ、すなわち「クメール性」を保とうとしている。それはグローバリゼーションの圧力のもと、主体的な国家発展を遂げていこうとするカンボジアの戦略の一つともいえる。
